What does it mean to catch someone off guard?

Catching somebody off guard means to surprise them at a time they did not expect to be surprised, or when they were just not prepared.

Here’s an example of it’s usage:

”Catch Off Guard” In a Sentence



“Yesterday, somebody kicked a football at my head.  
I was completely caught off guard.”
