What is a game time decision?

The phrase “game time decision” is used to describe a situation in which a decision will be made at the exact moment it has to be made. The phrase comes from the sporting world, where injured players would say that their decision to play in a game or match would be a “game time decision” – meaning they would decide at the time of the game or match whether they were going to play or not.

Here’s an example of it’s usage:

Game Time Decision In a Sentence

Reporter to Basketball Player: “You twisted your ankle
in the last game. Will you be able to play in the game
tomorrow?”

Basketball Player: “I’m not sure. It will have to be a
game time decision.”
