What’s the meaning of “et al”?

“Et al” is used to mean “and others”. It is most often used to complete a list, especially of people – like authors of a book . “Et al” is also preferred by some people over “etc”, although the two abbreviations are often used interchangeably.

Keep in mind that “et al” is almost never used in a normal conversation, whereas “etcetera” (the full form of the abbreviation “etc”) is often used in conversation.
