What plant did the Ancient Egyptians use for writing?

The Ancient Egyptians actually used the paypyrus plant to make paper for writing. The papyrus is a giant reed that grows 3 meters tall along the River Nile. Over 5,000 years ago, the Ancient Egyptians discovered that the pith of the papyrus stems could be used to make paper.

Where does the word paper come from?

The word ‘paper’ comes from the papyrus plant that the Egyptians used. But today, paper is made from wood pulp.
