What trees make wood?

All trees are woody, but the wood that we use to make things (like desks, chairs, etc) is known as timber. Timber is either softwood or hardwood.

What’s the difference between softwood and hardwood timber?

Softwood comes from fast-growing conifers like pine, larch, fir and spruce which also grow in colder places. Hardwood comes from slow-growing broad-leaved trees such as oak. And it also comes from tropical trees like mahogany.
