What is the meaning of the phrase “touch base”?

In corporate America, you will often hear the phrase “let’s touch base” or see the phrase being used in an email. For someone who has never seen the phrase before, it can be confusing. When someone says “let’s touch base” it simply means that they want to be in contact with you (through any form of communication whether it’s email, phone, or in person). Usually the phrase is used in the context of contacting someone in the future – like “let’s touch base tomorrow or next week”.
